My 8 month old dog chews on the car. What can I do?

Hello, I have a problem with my 8 month Bassett Hound chewing the car. I have tried toys and things he is allowed to chew on and he's not interested but he dose not do it all the time. He's only left for about 2 hours but I go and check him every half hour. I've tried anti chew spray and he got immune to it. What can I do? It's making me depressed.

I just got a 5 month old puppy. Is it to early in our relationship or for her age to start obediance training?

I have just received a 5 month old puppy she seems to have a great temperment and self confidence. I have only had her for 3 weeks. Is it to early in our relationship or for her age to start obediance training? I've already started her on the crate training program but I'm not sure if I am putting to much on her to soon by beginning basic obedience...

My vet is recommending the use of Rimadyl when my dog is nuetered. Is there a safe alternative I can ask for to provide post operation pain relief for my dog?

Cindy, I've been reading your responses on the topic of Rimadyl in the last two Leerburg Newsletters. My vet is encouraging me to nueter my 16 month old GSD (a topic for which I have mixed feelings). She gave me a printout with the estimated cost and I see that one of the fees is for Rimadyl use after surgery. Is there a safe alternative I can ask for to provide post operation pain relief for my dog? Thanks again as always.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for warning people about Rimadyl. I lost my gorgeous 5 year old Staffie mix to this med in March 2010.

Cindy, I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for warning people about Rimadyl. I lost my gorgeous 5 year old Staffie mix to this med in March 2010. She was given this med after a surgery to remove a small mass. Before the surgery she was a perfectly healthy. A typically bright and active dog became sickly and confused. She vomited all day long and would back herself in to walls and corners and get stuck. I took her to the ER but it was to late the damage was done and d...

Pfizer Sued after Dog Dies from Rimadyl Toxicity

Hi Cindy, Of the many things I've learned from your website is the danger of this drug. It's a sad story to have to read but underscores the importance of giving these so called "necessary drugs or vaccines" to our pets. http://www.pharmalot.com/2011/08/pfizer-sued-after-dog-dies-from-rimadyl-toxicity/ Blessings,Tracey

I switched my dogs to the raw diet, and now one of them won't eat at all. What can I do?

We have a friend that started his dog on your raw diet and we are starting ours on the same, because it has worked so great for him. We have 2 dogs, a large Rhodesian Ridgeback and a small Schipperke. The large one is about 15-20 lbs overweight, I guess. I don't think so, but the books say he should weight only 90 lbs and he weighs 115. The little one should weigh about 12 lbs and weighs 15. We started this raw diet on Easter Sunday. The large dog took to it right away, but the smaller ...

I just started my 4 dogs on the raw diet and still have questions about it. Can you help?

Well, I started my 4 dogs on the raw food after reading the information from your web site last Sun. Everyday I am amazed as they sort of chew up and swallow the bones and it still scares me a little, but I am determined to hang in there until it becomes normal. I have read tons of stuff on the internet trying to educate myself. I am glad that I just jumped into it and made the commitment to go forward even though I didn't have all my ducks in a row so to speak. I have a few more questions fo...

I am getting a new puppy and want to switch her to raw. I am confused about the percentages and supplements though. Do you have any suggestions?

I've been doing some research on raw and all-natural diets in anticipation of the arrival of a new puppy (8-wk-old Cane Corso), and had a couple questions for you if you don?t mind? She is currently on an all-natural (ie: human grade) kibble at the breeders, and I will continue her on this diet (Flint River Ranch) after she comes home. The reason for this is to allow her time to settle in to all the changes in her life, and because I'm not yet familiar enough with the raw diet to start rig...

My 3 year old male GSD has had skin irritation for a year. Do you think changing his diet will help?

My three y/o male shepherd has had skin irritation for over a span of a year. Since we had the dog, he has had this skin infection. We have fed the dog Diamond dog food since we have had the male shepherd. When I last took my boy to the vet, the doc put him on Keflex and Pretizone. For the time he was on the meds, the dog was fine. Now, we feed both my male and female dogs this potato and venison(deer) diet. The female has a little bit of a skin rash around her belly and our male now is scrat...

My dog eats really fast. Is that ok and is it safe?

Hi Ed, Probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. My dog eats his bowl in record time... like if I had not fed him for days....He doesn't show any signs of aggression i.e. : he doesn't growl, I can take the food away no problem. I'm just amazed on how fast he can eat the whole bowl. Dog height: 28", weight: 97lbs. He's big but not fat. This behavior just started. He's fed according to the level of activity during the day. The books, the vet, etc... say that I should wait until h...

I read on your website about Alfalfa and Kelp powder and that it (each) is very nutritious, one teaspoonful/day is enough for the dog. Is that really enough?

I read on your website about Alfalfa and Kelp powder and that it (each) is very nutritious, one teaspoonful/day is enough for the dog. Alfalfa is available in India and many people use it as cattle feed. Although you mentioned this only as a food supplement, I am surprised to hear one teaspoon Alfalfa powder per and one teaspoonful of kelp powder per day is enough for a dog. Or, am I missing something? Thanks, Basheer

I've been learning about feeding raw, but when I tried giving my dog a raw bone it splintered. Should I be concerned about this or am I just worrying over nothing?

Hi, I have a question I would like to ask you about the raw diet. I see you feed your German Shepherd raw chicken, I was feeding mine raw beef and she is doing fine on it, but figure I should try something different. My question is, I give her a thigh with the bone removed and dip it in boiling water for 2 min to kill any bacteria, cut it up and she love it. Then I let her bite the raw bone. She chewed twice and swallowed, when I looked at the end I was holding it was splinted or poi...

I am looking for another form of fiber for my dog. Any suggestions?

Hi, My dog is not overweight, he has a nice trim waist and no belly fat. I walk him at least 1 mile a day and usually more. He chases his ball etc. Thanks to your staff who I find to be most helpful my dog did not get vaccinated this yr. Instead I had a titer ran on him and he did not need shots. I would never known to do this if it weren't for you people. I told my vet about how often I express his glands and she said small dogs have problems with this and it is ok for me to do it for him...

I am reading Raw Meaty Bones from cover to cover. Can you tell me some other good books that you follow on raw diets. We are going to start processing our own beef for the dogs. What is your opinion?

Cindy, I am reading Raw Meaty Bones from cover to cover. Can you tell me some other good books that you follow on raw diets. We are going to start processing our own beef for the dogs. We are ranchers and are going to butcher a grass fed steer for the purpose of feeding the dogs. Do you recommend grinding the organ meat along with everything else. I thought that would be the way to do it. What is your opinion? Laura

My question to you is about my dog's poop. He is only going once or twice a day in very small amounts. Is this normal?

Hi Cindy, I received the books you recommended on feeding raw last Thursday. I started my GSD on Friday with the chicken backs and necks. I happy to say he's loving it! My question to you is about his poop. He is only going once or twice a day in very small amounts. Is this normal? I'm not sure if he's constipated. He has always had very loose and large stinky stools, so this is an extreme change. Also, I took him to the vet to check on his sore elbow and shoulder, he embarrassed me. He...

I currently feed 1/2 cup dry THK [The Honest Kitchen], a variety of RMBs, salmon oil and Vitamin E. Should I be adding more supplements to her diet or does THK take care of the requirements?

Hi Cindy, I wanted to thank you for all the help on starting with the new raw diet. Caddies itching has reduced by 60% (still some chewing and scratching but not like before) and this is just the first 3 weeks. She has gone from being lethargic to full of energy and personality. When I brought her home (she was a rescue) all she did was sleep and mope around, now it's like someone changed dogs on me and gave me this loving happy active dog. Oh how I love her even more now. I have a ques...
