We're worried about our new GSD puppy injuring our Yorkie. Do you have any words of wisdom for me? Is it unrealistic to think that at some point the GSD can be taught to be careful with the Yorkie?
Hi Ed,
I've enjoyed your website and have ordered a couple of DVDs and high value treats as well. I have a question but can't seem to find it in your FAQ archive.
Our 8 week old male GSD arrived this past Wednesday. We also have a 9 year old male Yorkie (3 lbs). Our 14 year old GSD now lives with our adult son (so he can enjoy a stress free life without a rambunctious puppy!). Our older GSD and the Yorkie are the best of friends, and we've never had to worry about the Yorkie's safety. T...

I have a question about the Parvaid product. Can this be used for a 8-10 week old puppy who is currently sick with parvo? If so, would you actually recommend it if the dog has been sick for nearly a week already?
Hi Cindy,
I have a question about the Parvaid product.?Can this be used for a 8-10 week old puppy who is currently sick with parvo??If so, would you actually recommend it if the dog has been sick for nearly a week already??And, if so, would the small bottle (1 oz.) be enough, I'm not sure what the dosage is.
Thank you so much!

My dog is doing great at holding her bladder if she has to pee, but can't seem to wait if she has to poop. Any suggestions or advice?
I currently have a 1 year old Dachshund mix that I just adopted about 2 weeks ago. She knows to go outside and pee and when she pees or poops I praise her and say good job and she gets a treat when she comes in. The problem I am having is, it seems like she will hold her pee until the next time to go out if she has to pee but if she has to poop she just goes. The vet checked her out and said she is healthy and everything seems fine. I can?t make her understand that potty is for outside only. ...

My chihuahua is 9 years old and keeps taking one biscuit out of his bowl and just places it down in his spot. I am wondering what this behaviour means and if we should try anything to stop it?
Hi,
My chihuahua is 9 years old and keeps taking one biscuit out of his bowl and just places it down in his spot, we cleaned them up at first but now tried leaving it there but he just seems to stock pile them there and never eat them from there only from his bowl. I am wondering what this behaviour means and if we should try anything to stop it?
Thank you for your time,

What size are the aluminum bars on the full ventilation crate? Do you use a certain grade of aluminum that won't stain white dogs?
Hi! I am looking at your full ventilation dog crate. What size are the aluminum bars? Do you use a certain grade that won't stain white dogs (rubbing silver off on their fur)?
Thanks,
Amanda

I tried to teach my dog a marker for "slow" on loose leash walks. I think he is now doing it on purpose to get the food. Are my assumptions correct in saying this will not work? Or am I impatient?
Hi,
Love your all you are doing :) I have a 13 week old puppy(Weimaraner). Things are going well with marker training. He is crate trained and we are getting there with house training. He is a soft to mid temperament. Started marker training first few weeks with his name, now he just about gets whiplash when I call his name. He's learning sit already. When we walk I made the mistake of thinking I could 'marker' train the "slow" command by marking him when he slowed and turned. But I realiz...

My 3 year old dog as had at least 5 seasons. She swells up at the back end ok but never bleeds. Is this a problem?
Hello Ed / Cindy,
I have a 3 year old female french bulldog she has had at least 5 seasons. She swells up at the back end ok but never bleeds. I know they can have dry seasons but it happens every time. Could they be a problem? If yes, what?
Thanks,
Lee

My 8 month old dog chews on the car. What can I do?
Hello,
I have a problem with my 8 month Bassett Hound chewing the car. I have tried toys and things he is allowed to chew on and he's not interested but he dose not do it all the time. He's only left for about 2 hours but I go and check him every half hour. I've tried anti chew spray and he got immune to it. What can I do? It's making me depressed.

Thanks,
Tony

I have just received a 5 month old puppy she seems to have a great temperment and self confidence. I have only had her for 3 weeks. Is it to early in our relationship or for her age to start obediance training? My vet is recommending the use of Rimadyl when my dog is nuetered. Is there a safe alternative I can ask for to provide post operation pain relief for my dog?
Cindy,
I've been reading your responses on the topic of Rimadyl in the last two Leerburg Newsletters. My vet is encouraging me to nueter my 16 month old GSD (a topic for which I have mixed feelings). She gave me a printout with the estimated cost and I see that one of the fees is for Rimadyl use after surgery. Is there a safe alternative I can ask for to provide post operation pain relief for my dog?
Thanks again as always.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for warning people about Rimadyl. I lost my gorgeous 5 year old Staffie mix to this med in March 2010.
Cindy,
I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for warning people about Rimadyl. I lost my gorgeous 5 year old Staffie mix to this med in March 2010. She was given this med after a surgery to remove a small mass. Before the surgery she was a perfectly healthy. A typically bright and active dog became sickly and confused. She vomited all day long and would back herself in to walls and corners and get stuck. I took her to the ER but it was to late the damage was done and d...

Pfizer Sued after Dog Dies from Rimadyl Toxicity
Hi Cindy,
Of the many things I've learned from your website is the danger of this drug. It's a sad story to have to read but underscores the importance of giving these so called "necessary drugs or vaccines" to our pets.

I switched my dogs to the raw diet, and now one of them won't eat at all. What can I do?
We have a friend that started his dog on your raw diet and we are starting ours on the same, because it has worked so great for him.
We have 2 dogs, a large Rhodesian Ridgeback and a small Schipperke. The large one is about 15-20 lbs overweight, I guess. I don't think so, but the books say he should weight only 90 lbs and he weighs 115. The little one should weigh about 12 lbs and weighs 15.
We started this raw diet on Easter Sunday. The large dog took to it right away, but the smaller ...

I just started my 4 dogs on the raw diet and still have questions about it. Can you help?
Well, I started my 4 dogs on the raw food after reading the information from your web site last Sun. Everyday I am amazed as they sort of chew up and swallow the bones and it still scares me a little, but I am determined to hang in there until it becomes normal. I have read tons of stuff on the internet trying to educate myself. I am glad that I just jumped into it and made the commitment to go forward even though I didn't have all my ducks in a row so to speak. I have a few more questions fo...

I am getting a new puppy and want to switch her to raw. I am confused about the percentages and supplements though. Do you have any suggestions?
I've been doing some research on raw and all-natural diets in anticipation of the arrival of a new puppy (8-wk-old Cane Corso), and had a couple questions for you if you don?t mind?
She is currently on an all-natural (ie: human grade) kibble at the breeders, and I will continue her on this diet (Flint River Ranch) after she comes home. The reason for this is to allow her time to settle in to all the changes in her life, and because I'm not yet familiar enough with the raw diet to start rig...

My 3 year old male GSD has had skin irritation for a year. Do you think changing his diet will help?
My three y/o male shepherd has had skin irritation for over a span of a year. Since we had the dog, he has had this skin infection. We have fed the dog Diamond dog food since we have had the male shepherd. When I last took my boy to the vet, the doc put him on Keflex and Pretizone. For the time he was on the meds, the dog was fine. Now, we feed both my male and female dogs this potato and venison(deer) diet. The female has a little bit of a skin rash around her belly and our male now is scrat...
