My dog is extremely sensitive to any correction. I'm reluctant to do serious training with him. Do you have any suggestions?

I have some basic to intermediate experience with dog training. I have never tried a remote electric collar before, and just purchased one locally, made by SportDog (I have no idea if this is a decent product or not). I just found your website, and would really appreciate some advise as I have a very unique dog. I am a veterinarian, and this dog came in on emergency one night after being hit by 2 cars. The history on this dog was minimal, he was seen by someone in the town being hit in th...

I've sent in 2 sets of xrays to OFA on my 3 year old GSD and gotten back 2 different results. Do you have any advice?

Mr. Frawley, I have inherited a working lines GSD male dog. He has excellent blood lines and is a tank of a dog. I have no doubt his hips are fine, but have sent them to OFA twice, about five months apart, after having them xrayed by two different veterinarians, and they have come back with different results both times. The first time he was mild on both hips, the second he was mild on the left right was normal. Now, I didn't see the first set of films, they were not ...

Our female GSD was diagnosed with pannus about 7 months ago. We are worried about the steroids the vet recommends. What do you think? Do you have experience with this?

Hi Ed, Our female GSD was diagnosed with pannus about 7 months ago (we live at almost 7000 feet). The vet said in order to prevent her getting blind we have to put one drop twice a day of "neomycin and polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Ophtalmic suspension" in each eye for the rest of her life. We are worried about the steroids. Please let us know what you think, if you have any experience about that disease. Thanks so much, Steffi

Our pup is so sick, we've been to the vet 3 times in the past 2 days. Do you have any ideas of what could be wrong?

I have a new lab puppy that is sick with diarrhea and vomiting. I've taken her to the vet 3 times in the last 2 days. She has had parvo and parasites tests. All came back negative. The vet gave her a shot for vomiting and two different injections under the skin to rehydrate her. She's 8 weeks old, but I got her at 6 weeks. The breeder told my husband and I that she was 7 weeks old and that she could eat normal puppy food, so we immediately began feeding her Purina Pro Plan puppy food for ...

I've had the Innotek automatic bark collar and had a bad experience with it. I'm worried a remote collar will lead us down the same dead-end road. Is the Dogtra 175NCP the right one?

This email is in two parts... sorry for the long winded nature. I put my questions at the top (cause I am sure you don't have time to read everything) and our story at the bottom. Questions... I am writing to ask you about what I feel is our last option. I think it is time to start training with a remote collar. My only worry is that after a bad experience with the Innotek automatic bark collar (see below) I am worried that a remote collar would lead us down the same dead en...

My 4 year old dog bit me this morning. Would training classes or getting him fixed help? I don't want to put him to sleep.

Hi, I was bitten by my dog, Chili this morning. He is a 4 year old, 1/2 Rottweiler and 1/2 greyhound. I have had him since he was about 8 weeks old. He has never been beaten or abused. We have 2 other dogs also. Popeye, a 8 year old Chihuahua and Toby, a 4 year old pit/basset mix. All 3 are spoiled. Chili has really gotten aggressive since he went to the pound a couple of years ago, for a 10 day quarantine for biting a man that came on our property and kicked him. He has shown aggr...

I am deciding between the Dogtra Electric Collar and the Tri-Tronic. What is the real difference? Do they not accomplish the same thing?

Mr. Frawley, Let me first commend you on such an informative and well thought out website. This website keeps me occupied for hours, I just flat out love it. I am new to dog training but have been around dogs for a while. I am a 20 year college student and I own a pit bull, but let's get back to that in a minute. I recently bought your e-collar DVD and I have purchased the Dogtra 1900 ncp collar (I got it because I saw it was one of your favorites on your web site. I have no...

Does back yard play biting and chasing between my dog & my son’s dog contribute to more aggressive chasing?

Hi Cindy, I have just ordered the DVD on training with an E-collar and hopefully I'll be able to use that to answer part of my question. I have a well-trained yellow lab/husky mix (the dominant dog), and introduced my son's 1-1/2 year old stray (very little training) into my home. Both dogs are 60 pounds, get along well, but engage in chasing and play-biting behavior, running around and nipping at each other's necks and legs and mouthing each other. No one is getting hurt. Is this ...

I have a 12-month-old Boxer who's dominant towards other dogs. I want him to be able to play and run at a dog park? Do you think this is possible?

I have a 12 month old Boxer (neutered) who is extremely dominant/aggressive towards other dogs. I have just watched your DVD on this matter and am anxious to start applying your techniques. I have a prong collar (which I found out I was putting on the wrong way) although he still accepted it well. I also just received the dominant dog collar from you. Here is my question. I am a small woman and my Boxer is about 55 pounds but seems like an elephant when he sees another dog. The prong help...

Our 2 year old short-haired pointer has begun to get aggressive. I do not want to put him down, what can we do?

Our two-year-old German Short Haired Pointer has begun to get aggressive. We brought him home from the breeder at 8 weeks. He has been a wonderful gentle loving dog to me my wife and 10 and 13-year-old sons. At 6 months we put him on an electric invisible fence, which has worked perfectly. He has been a wonderful family pet. If we had any problems it was his ?over-friendliness? - jumping on and licking all guests. A few months ago we noticed he was barking at joggers running by the...

I was walking my 3 dogs with a small dog following us for 2 blocks, barking behind my dogs. One of my dogs attacked this dog. Am I at fault?

I just returned from a walk with my 3 dogs very shaken up and would like your advice. At the end of our walk, about 3 blocks from my house, a small (approximatly 5 lbs.) dog ran out of its house and started barking at us and yipping at our heels. I yelled at it to go away, but it wouldn't, and followed us for a couple blocks. I stopped to look for rocks to throw after it was apparent it wouldn't leave. All 3 of my dogs had head collars on (Halti brand) and one of them went nuts as this dog wa...

My two dogs are 2-years old. They are crated when I am gone. When I come home the lab gets so excited he pees on the floor before I can get him outside. What can I do?

I have two dogs; a 2-year old golden and black lab. Both were crate trained since pups, but they've had the run of the house for about 6 months now and I haven't had any problems with anything until now. My black lab seems to get too excited when I come home and he pees before I can let him outside. I'm only gone at the most for 5 hours in a day, and I'm not sure what to do. Should I not leave water for them while I'm gone? The black lab has a tendency to over drink, but I don't want to leave...

When I pinch my puppy’s toes she jumps on me and bites my hands. What can I do?

I have a question for you. When I am working with Tasha I have to correct her, because she will try and bite my hands, or even try to jump on me. When she gets her fingers pinched she gets madder and really bites at my hands. This especially happens if I have to correct her after inappropriate behavior towards other dogs. I know this is training oriented, but I have never encountered this before, this is a recent behavior, and I am not sure how to approach dealing with it. I need your adv...

My 10 week old Border Collie bites constantly. What can I do?

When you say puppy prong collar are you referring to something different than just a normal prong collar that is small enough to fit a puppy? My 10 week old border collie is biting near constantly and through most every correction given to her. I've tried the basic ouch!, a low growl, scruff shaking, picking her up by the cheeks, pressing down on her tongue lightly but firmly, pushing my hand into her mouth to force a gag, pushing her away, holding her down, taps on the nose. All result in he...

We have a roommate who stays in the basement. Everytime he comes upstairs, our dog will bark viciously unlike her normal barking. Should we use the bark limiter collar?

My girlfriend and I have a 7 1/2 month old female Standard Schnauzer named Gracie that we have had since 8 weeks old. I have had no problem establishing myself as a pack leader, but it has not come so easy for my girlfriend, so we purchased your Pack Leader DVD along with Obedience Training for later. We started the social isolation phase this past week. My main issue that I have is that I let a friend move in a month ago while he deals with separation/divorce. He stays in the basement and...

I'm nervous about putting my dog in the crate because of his thunderstorm anxiety. Do you guys have any experience with resolving thunderstorm anxiety?

I'm nervous about putting my dog in the crate because the reason he was breaking out of the old crate was thunderstorm anxiety. I didn't see that referenced in the videos. I have sought help from a local specialist. But he thinks I should put the dog on prozac and xanax for the anxiety. I am fairly convinced that the pack structure program and training (along with the info about dealing with dominant dogs) will address the core issues. My concern is that he hurt himself in the crate in th...

I was wondering if it is possible to train a lab to stay out of the pool. Do you have any tips or suggestions on how I can train him to stay out of the pool?

Hi Cindy, I was wondering if it is possible to train a lab to stay out of the pool. My chocolate lab is a year and 4 months old and I cannot keep him out of my pool to save my life. The main reason I don't want him in the pool is because when the kids are in the pool he wants to swim with them and of course he usually ends up on top of them creating an unsafe environment. And of course when we chain him up while the kids are in the pool, he whines, cries and barks. If you ...

My dog loves to roll in really bad things like cat droppings. Are there any steps I can take to discourage this?

Cindy, You helped me with a previous question about training and I appreciate it. We were about ready to get rid of our rescued mutt, but your advice helped. I have another question. Our Terrier mix mutt has turned into a very good dog based on some of your advice, however, she LOVES to roll in really bad things? cat droppings, raccoon droppings, dead mice etc. Hardly a week goes by that we aren't bathing her multiple times. We want her to be able to be outside alone in our nic...

My dog is a submissive wetter, will she grow out of this?

I am interested in knowing what you think about submissive wetting. I am a trainer myself and am possibly getting a German Shepherd female that I know has been very poorly bred. She is a clients of mine that will not keep her due to this problem (I have tried to talk her out of it, but her husband is adamant). Is it possible she will outgrow it despite her not so great lineage? She is only five months old. Thank you so much for your time and your very valuable web site, it has proven to b...
