Hey Cindy,
Ed advises not to give dogs sugar, but condones giving blueberries as treats. Is he referring to refined sugar like table sugar? Are the natural sugars in blueberries carcinogenic?
Thanks

Is there a lesson plan or flash card system that you know of to help new trainers keep track of dogs they are working with?
Hi Cindy,
I am a new trainer looking for some planning/organizing help. I currently have 3 dogs I am training/sitting while owners are on vacation. I am having trouble keeping track in my head where each dog is at in terms of what they have learned, and what I need to teach them next. I have autism so I struggle with planning/memory so I think some sort of flashcard system like quizlet would help cue me if I get stuck training dogs... that's what I've come up with so far. I'm curious if you ...

How do I introduce my German Shepherd puppy to my 8 pound Yorkipoo? He’s so rough with her.
Hi Cindy, I have a 5 mo. old German shepherd puppy I've had since he was 8 weeks old. I have an 8 lb yorkipoo & a labradoodle. I haven't been able to introduce him to my Yorkipoo because all he wants to do is paw her and mouth her to play and she's too little so we keep them apart. My question is how do I introduce them? He really wants to get to know her but he's too rough. Thank you

I have a service dog that is struggling with the retrieve. How can I break it down further for the dog?
Hi Cindy,
You have been wonderful with answering questions in the past, thank you. My question is this: I have a service dog that is struggling with the retrieve. The dog will take and hold but the moment the object goes to the floor the dog is baffled. He cannot seem to understand the difference from just above the floor to floor. Obviously, this has made teaching the dog to bring objects difficult. Any thoughts on ways to break it down further for the dog? Thanks

Do you have any articles or books to suggest on dog-on-dog aggression to read for possible solutions?
Cindy, I have several beagles that I hunt with, and two red heelers for working with our cows. One of the red heelers, a female, cannot be around the beagles without trying to kill them. We have to keep them separated all the time. The dog is very loving and usually obeys but not when it comes to the beagles, she hates them.
Do you have any articles or books to suggest on reading for possible solutions? If not, then I will have to rehome her, and she is good with working with the cattl...

I'm having some issues using the food delivery device in nosework. What would you suggest?
I have purchased the "The Foundation of Nosework with Andrew Ramsey DVD" and have been working my 5 month Malinois on it for a few weeks now. He has been doing great on the first few steps.
1.Using 3 drawers open using nose to find food.
2.Then using the second step of letting him self reward after the drawers are closed and the scent has been added. *Note: He will quickly find the target drawer and begin to scratch, usually only one time then I pop it open for him to self reward.
*no...

Your electric collar training methods worked great for me!
Hi Cindy and Ed.?I have approximately 6 or 7 of your DVDs and two of them are on remote collar training. I couldn't be happier with the knowledge and information you have given me via your DVDs. I have 3 rescue dogs that had some serious "barrier frustration" issues with fences. First and foremost: my dogs are exercised daily, have good obedience and live with in routine. However, they would get so worked up w/?various dogs on the?opposite?side of?the fence that they would often demonstrate r...

How much vigorous physical activity is ok for my dog?
Hi,
I saw the video on Facebook "Rush and Cindy on a Bike." I like taking my 21 month old GSD Mac with me when I go for runs, and I thought I'd get your opinion and advice, if possible, on how much vigorous physical activity is OK for him.
I started taking him out in April when he was about 15 months old, and I really love going for runs with him. We start off slow, maintain a fast jog for the most part and always do a cool down walk before we go back inside the house.
So in the begi...

My 13 year old dog is allergic or doesn't like many foods. Can you recommend the supplements he will need that he won't get from his raw food?
I have a 13-year-old, healthy, Pekingese who has been on the Nature's Variety raw food for 90 days or so before he refused to eat it. He is an incredibly fussy eater (except for any junk food he gets a hold of, i.e. hamburger, sausage patties, treats etc.). Up to today, he has refused to eat anything for almost 4 days. Today, I brought home freshly ground raw food from a local natural pet food store and he ate it. The mixture he likes is the ground turkey backs with added veggies (75% meat/25...

If the Everlasting Treats happen to be swallowed without much chewing, will they digest soon enough to not harm the dog?
Hi Cindy - we have Greater Swiss Mountain dogs. They eat everything in sight and anything they chance to find. Size doesn't seem to matter, it all goes down. My question is, if these treats happen to be swallowed without much chewing will they digest soon enough to not harm the dog. Our girls are on raw diet and we have to be watchful that they chew, chew, chew before swallow. Recently one of them threw up a complete chicken thigh. It is very troubling. I am always on the lookout for treats, ...
