A Licensed Veterinary Technician's view of Rimadyl.
Bravo! for you Cindy. I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician and, in my province of Ontatio, technicians are not considered part of the veterinary health team, therefore having no input into patient care or information. ALL NSAIDS carry risks, and those folks who used to give their pets aspirin decades ago were very very lucky. Dog and cat livers do the same job as humans but they do not have all the same products to process the things that we have. The result is liver and kidney toxicity. We,...

We're new dog owners and are wondering which videos we should purchase.
Hi there,
We have a new (to us) border collie who is 4 1/2 months old, he has had some basic training from his breeder. But comes to us, his keen but new to it all dog owners. This puppy will no doubt know more than we will! (although we are quick to learn :o)
I have been in contact with Michael Ellis and he has recommended the Training with Food, Marker Training, and

My puppy starts barking at us when we are working on basic commands, could we be doing something wrong? He also makes a huge mess when he eats. Any suggestions?
Our GSD is 9 weeks old (and 16 lbs!) and has been taking to training beautifully. We purchased your DVD and I have been scouring your site for information on everything from food to obedience. We purchased your Puppy DVD and are considering the 4 hr obedience training video as well. A couple of nagging questions that I have been grappling with and hoping you can help answer... First, sometimes when we are working on basic commands (sit, stay, wait, plots, etc), he will get frustrated and star...

Please if you could help with advice on what to do with my 5 year old and two dogs and well as my baby. I'm at a loss here and it is a terrible stress.
I have read so many articles on having dogs around children, yet I still have to ask so many questions and tell you my situation in hopes that you can help me before something serious happens in my home.
There are two dogs in my home which are both almost five years old. They are rotti mix, but we are not sure with what. They are my husband's dogs and they have been in this home since they were brought here from about 6 months old. One is male and one is female, they were from the same lit...

I read that you taught your dog to stay in front of you on the trail, while you were horseback riding. How did you do that?
Cindy,
I have written to you in the past about my high drive Doberman who last summer fractured his patella while hiking with him in the woods. I had asked you about what to do about him chasing everything that moves. I do use an e-collar with him for previously he had gotten into the habbit of chasing bikers and joggers in the woods. That has ended. You had told me to use the leave it command for ANY chase behaviour which I can control at this point. But I feel like I am always saying it,...

Are you concerned about hormones fed to Chicken and Beef in the food that you feed your dogs?
Cindy,
First of all, thanks for all of the info on vaccines. I do have another question to do with feeding raw, something I used to do. When feeding ground beef or anything beef, are you at all concerned with the hormones that are given to cattle to fatten them up? I guess the same question goes for poultry too. And one more? I also have a 6 pound Pom and a little bewildered about what size bones he can handle. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

My dog has been scratching a lot and I want to bring her to the vet, but they will want to update her shots, which is something I don't want to do. What does one do, for ailments on their pets and the vets want shots to be up to date?
Hi there, I was looking again at your website and saw the tv show that you have on there about vets. Unreal. Scary. I was wondering if you could give me some insight, my shepherd, is constantly scratching and licking her paws, she is also shedding more than I think she should be. The seasons have changed, so I don't know why she is shedding. She is a house dog, so maybe that could be one of the reasons? I may have to bring her to the vet, trust me I don't want to but she has a little hole in ...

I have a 2 year old male Siberian Husky. For about 6 months I fed raw. Two problems arose however. One, it was difficult to keep weight on him no matter how much I fed him. Two, it became expensive and cumbersome. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hi Cindy,
I have a 2 year old male Siberian Husky. For about 6 months I fed him a raw food diet. He loved it and did quite well on it. Two problems arose however. One, it was difficult to keep weight on him no matter how much I fed him. Two, it became expensive and cumbersome.
In an attempt to fix these problems I switched to the Honest Kitchens dehydrated raw food and also supplemented with raw meat, eggs, etc. He refused to eat. Turned his nose up every time and would go days without ...

True or false. It is a myth that dog kibble food containing 42% protein can burn up a dog's kidneys?
Hey,
True or false. It is a myth that dog kibble food containing 42% protein can burn up a dogs kidneys? I am feeding my golden retriever conformation show dog Orijen dog food made by Champion Pets out of Canada. (Please see their white paper on their web site) I chose this food because it is grain free, made from quality ingredients, and high in protien. My supposition is that it takes protein to grow the lush coat I am looking for in my 19 month old open bitch.
Thanks Ed,
Bill

Is it better to by low-end meats like chicken wings, leftovers from butchers, that are non-organic, and may contain toxins that organic food doesn’t have etc? Or is it better to stick with the higher-end kibble, in your opinion?
Mr. Frawley,
I want to quickly say that what you have done with your site and eBooks has turned my interest for my dogs into a passion and have steadily increased both my wife and I?s as well as our dogs quality of life, and I thank you for it.
I know that you are not a dog nutritionist, but you have a lot of experience with feeding so I want to ask you what you would do if you were me.

My 2 dogs became ill a month ago and ever since then they won’t eat their regular food. I’ve been offering them their favorite treats, but even then they walk away unless I handfeed them. Please let me know what you think.
Hi Cindy,
My 2 dogs are eating Honest Kitchen Embark. Both of them became sick about 1 month ago with diarrhea and some bleeding (1 week apart) and I put them on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. After 2 weeks of a bland diet I slowly introduced them back on the Honest Kitchen and they will not eat it. I have tried everything and finally gave up and put them back on fruits and cottage cheese which they loved and now refuse to eat that as well. Every morning and night it's a hassel t...

Wendy Vollhard and her husband have written a number of articles or books on feeding a raw diet. Some of your information is different that what they recommend. There seems to be a conflict among experts here. What are your thoughts?
Hello Ed and Cindy,
I recently obtained a pup from a breeder on the East coast. The pup actually came from Germany (pure ddr). Anyway, our breeder highly endorses the All Natural Diet of Wendy Volhard. I have been comparing the ingredient list that she recommends to the one you recommend and there are some major differences. For example, she lists several dairy products to supplement at times (cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.), she also recommends things like Brewers Yeast, Honey, Molasses, va...

I have 2 chihuahuas and have switched them to a raw diet but I’m terrified. They choke on their chicken drumsticks and act like they are choking to death. Can you help me?
Hi Cindy,
I love your website and have been devouring it... how cool are all of you!!!... but no one ever talks about raw feeding toy breeds... I have 2 eight pound chihuahuas... I have been raw feeding since december but I have to tell you... it is terrifying and I dread every meal... I have only used chicken so far... they say to use the size of their head without the snout... I am not visual so that alone is hard!...so for example, every night I get out 2 drumsticks, 2 wings, 2 thighs, ...

My dog has been on a raw diet for 3 months and she is constipated, what can I do?
Hi Cindy,
I've written before you've given great advice. I have a 14 month old female bulldog. I've had her on a raw diet for about 3 months now. I'm feeding her chicken, hamburger, etc. mixed with natures varieties natural frozen raw diet venison/ rabbit, chicken. She's having problems with going pottie. She has to push real hard & it takes a while. Some times by parts maybe 2-3 pieces come out she walks away & the process repeats its self and sometimes takes her a good 15 minutes to go. ...

I have a Giant Schnauzer 10 week old puppy. I noticed today that his front legs are bowed. Is this normal for a puppy? I feed 3/4- 1 # of raw chicken necks every other day. Should I cut that down? I read your article on Pano and didn't know if bowed legs was considered Pano. Please advise.
Good morning Ed,
I have a Giant Schnauzer 10 week old puppy that I'm feeding a raw diet, and 1C origen dry (large breed puppy) food offered for extra (usually not touched). I noticed today that his front legs are bowed. Is this normal for a puppy, as growth rates vary? I feed 3/4- 1 # of raw chicken necks every other day. Should I cut that down? My dog has been on raw for a month but he keeps getting diarrhea. Any input would be appreciated.
I am a firm believer in a raw food diet, we have had our 5 month german shepherd on it now for about a month, but he keeps getting diarrhea. I am super carefull with his food, nothing is cross contaminated, his bowl is thoroughly washed after every meal. I give him chicken, a little bit of pulverized veggies a few times a week, eggs with shells, gizzards, hearts and occasionally liver. We have him on all the supplements as well. He has now had three episodes of diarrhea, no blood, and no othe...

During the day, while I'm at work, where should I put the dog?
I bought your establishing your role as pack leader DVD and have a question. During the day, while I'm at work, where should I put the dog? I teach third grade so I don't get a lunch break where I get to leave, so I couldn't take him out of the crate to let him go out and two days a week I do after school tutoring so I'm gone for ten hours. I can put him on a tie-out in the yard or there is a small fenced-in pen, it's about 12x12 area, I'm just not positive he wouldn't try to dig out since...
