How much Embark should I feed my 65lb dog and is it okay to mix it with kibble?
I wanted to know, on your website it says for up to 70lbs 2 3/4 dry cups while the bag of embark says up to 4 1/2 cups. We have an American bulldog that is 6 months old and weights 65 lbs. What do you suggest for the amount. If we adjust to 4 1/2 cups for his weight, is it fine or is that too much?
We also have a 10-yr-old English Bulldog. He likes it much better with dry kibble mixed in it. Is it okay to just keep mixing his food this way?

I need help on starting my dogs on a raw diet.
Hello Cindy,
I just ordered several items from Leerburg and now I've decided to get your raw diet foods. My 4 yr. old German Shepherd just had a scary attack of bloat symptoms which stopped after I gave her Mylanta Gas and she ate a lot of grass. She is on "Life's Abundance" dry kibble-all my five dogs and 3 cats - can you add the food to my order? If you could guide me to get started (I read the site but not sure which to go with) I would give them raw meat and vegetables, yogurt ...

I have a GSD that has dry itchy skin and is scratching a lot. What kind of HOnest Kitchen would you recommend?
I have a GSD that has dry itchy skin and is scratching a lot. I used a special shampoo from the vet which others have asked you questions about and it did not help. Which kind of Honest Kitchen would you recommend? I was looking at Thrive and did not know if that would help with the dry skin and scratching I described below in the email I sent you yesterday or if I should use a different one of the Honest Kitchen types of foods. I was looking at the Red barn meat rolls product for usin...

Have you heard of EVO from Innova? How does it compare to Honest Kitchen? Also, do you have any problems with E. coli?
Cindy,
I was wondering if you have heard of EVO from Innova it is grain free and how it compares to Honest Kitchen. From there web site they don't recommend feeding EVO to large breed dogs under 2 because it is low in carbs. Is this true with honest kitchen? I have a GSD that is 21 months old and I am looking for a grain free food. Have you ever had any problems with E coli from the raw diet, lately it seems that there has been a lot of e coli recalls?
Thank you for your...

Are there any sturdy toys for my 2 Australian Cattle dogs. Also, at what age do you suggest that a female be spayed for a personal protection dog?
Dear Cindy,
At what age do you suggest that a female be spayed (if at all) when she is going to be used as a personal protection dog. I am getting lots of mixed info on this one. I have only had males before and have always left them unaltered. I obviously want her to be the best that she can be. I do not want to make a mistake and spay her if that might make her less of a protection dog down the road. If you could get back to me as soon as possible that would be great.
Thanks for y...

I recently read information on the risk of bone cancer and thyroid issues that could be related to neutering your puppy too young. How do I know if I have an aggressive dog?
I have a 10 month old male lab. I recently read information on the risk of bone cancer, thyroid issues and other issues that could be related to neutering your puppy too young... 4 to 6 months. The research (studied with medium to large dogs) showed that the dogs that were neutered at one year had a 65 to 75% chance of not having some of these issues as they age. Our lab is very active (teenager). How do I know if I have an aggressive dog? I am watching your video on Pack structure... I l...

Will hosing off a GSD make them sick? Could an owner bring a GSD into the shower with them and wash dirt off without hurting the dog's health?
Hello Cindy,
I am a pet sitter in NJ. One of my clients has two wonderful GSD rescues. The other day after heavy rains the backyard where they are let out by me was pretty muddy. They needed to do their business and so they were out having a grand time for about 20 minutes. I brought them into their kennel room and did my best to get the mud off, but they were quite muddy. I contacted the client to give her a heads up that the dogs were muddy and might need a bath. She came h...

I have a 4 year old beagle who gets over-excited and anxious. Will any of the calming or anxiety pills or supplements that you have help out a bit. Which one is best?
Cindy,
I was looking at the biweekly newsletter and saw the herbal and holistic vitamins. I have a 4 year old beagle and she sometimes gets a little over excited and anxious when I bring her out to places. I am a trainer and she is getting much better with the help of training. She has no phobias or extreme anxieties, but I was wondering if maybe one of the calming or anxiety pills or supplements that you have may help out a bit. As long as its 100% natural I have no problem giving...

My wife and I have a 10 month GSD. Should we wait to have him neutered? I want him to grow to his full maturity and potential and not loose any of his fight or aggression.
Hi,
Big fan of the website. I love it. It has really helped me and my wife. I have a bunch of your DVDs, but I do have a question. My wife and I have a 10 month GSD. We just had to take him to the vet yesterday for a minor limp he has with his front paw. He was weighed and is currently 85 lbs. He is a great dog, lots of energy and no dominance issues. The vet checked his leg and didn't see anything wrong with it. She gave us some muscle relaxers to give him until next week and if...

A couple of days ago my German shepherd of 7 1/2 years died of bloat. Needless to say my other dog who was purchased from you is devastated. My question is how can I prevent this from happening again?

My dog has bad skin problems on his feet and legs. Do you have any idea what to do?
I have a question and yours is the only site I found that has similar dogs to mine.
He is a four year old male and has some kind of a skin problem the local vet can't seem to cure. It's similar to mange, but not near as drastic. He isn't losing large amounts of hair, but there is hair loss mostly on his legs and feet. He does scratch a lot, but doesn't seem to be in a lot of pain. We do not bathe him regularly as we were told not to. We feed him 40% dry and 60% table scraps. Also, ...

My 7 month old GSD doesn’t like to eat. What should I do?
I seem to be having a couple problems with my 7 month old GSD, (full German). First, eating. He doesn't like doing it. I've tried 3 different brands since I got him and he just doesn't like to eat. Our vet has given him a clean bill of health. It's at the point I have to stand over him and continually point at his food bowl and tell him "eat." I loop the leash under the table leg and his bowl is in the corner (if I don't leash him, he won't stay and eat). You can't see ribs on him. Howeve...

I have to put my 6-month old dog asleep today because of bad hips. How can I avoid this again?
Tonight I will drive to the vet to put my 6 month old Akita pup to sleep. She started to limp, and this past weekend she was in so much pain she would not get up. The veterinarian said that in both legs Summer has severe hip dysplasia and as a result, the knees are now severely damaged. We have contacted the breeder, who stated that all of their dogs have been x-rayed except Summer's mother. All their dogs came from a champion breeder down in Tennessee. They feel awful, but are willing to...

My dogs stay in outside runs with dog houses. When is it unsafe to leave them in the cold?
I keep some of my dogs in an outdoor run. It has a roof and each dog has his own run with his own doghouse. I have three sides of the kennel area protected from the wind. At what point is it unsafe to leave them out in the cold & does this differ from a 4 month old pup to an adult?
Thank you,
Karen

I found a tick that had fallen off my dog right after he showed some lameness. I was wondering if it could be Lymes? What do you think?
Mr Frawley,
It's been a while since I asked you for advice. Your e-mails, web site, and your DVD's helped me immensely in the past. I have a GSD from a working line about 1.5 years old now, doing great on a raw food diet. I live in NJ and hence I live in a lyme disease area. My dog is not vaccinated against lyme -- I use Frontline in the spring. I did not use it in the past few months, thinking season is probably over.
Facts:

What do you use for tick repellant at your kennel?
We have been enjoying your videos and dvds in training our dog, Lucas. Your toys and balls are the only ones he can't destroy. We discovered a tick on his head and removed it. He became ill and hasn't eaten since last tuesday! We took him to two vets and discovered a high fever for the tick bite we think. Which tick repellant do you use and recommend? All of your advice we have used so far has been right on! Thank you for your help!

Could point me in a direction for finding a vet that doesn't make you give shots? Also, would Heartworm be considered one of those types of medications that dogs don't really need?
I absolutely love your site, and I've bought several items. I want to find a vet that won't make my dogs get shots, any recommendations on how to find a vet like that? Also, is it ok to give "Revolution" for fleas, ticks and heartworms? or do they not need heartworm med's? I wasn't sure if this is also unnecessary or not like vaccine boosters. I had a schnauzer, died at age 9, had every problem under the sun, and my cat started out with "crystals" progressed to diabetes. I don't want my a...
