Our puppy will pee and poop in its crate and seems very content to lay in it. What can we do about this?

One of us is on our way out the door. It's either my 4-month-old Shepherd or me. If left up to my wife she would keep the dog, so I thought I'd try contacting you once more for your help. I have followed your instructions on your video explicitly, and this puppy pees & shits inside more than out. Size of the kennel: a mosquitoes' hatband can't fit in there with the dog. Food up at 4:30, water up at 5:00. Outside at 11:00 and again at 6:00 AM. He's fine as long as we wake him up, bu...

My dog has started to exhibit some aggression while in the car. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions, and is this behavior likely a symptom of a problem that could get worse?

Dear Cindy, Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply to my e-mail concerning using e-collars to control prey drive in my 2 year old 110 lb. mastiff/boxer female. The first collar was apparently defective as the replacement worked on the lower power setting just as you said it should. I have had this dog for a year. She is a rescue dog and is assimilating into the family pretty easily. There have been a few issues - for example, a fear of plastic grocery sacks shifting in the back of the...

My usually well behaved dog recently began chewing items from low tables and shelves. Should we go back to the basics and retrain? What do you suggest?

Dear Cindy, My now almost 4 year-old GSD female, Pepper, whom my wife and brought home as a 6 week-old puppy (too young to be taken from the dam, I know, but there you have it), is crate trained, and has historically been an obedient and well behaved almost 80 pound dog with an energetic, pleasant demeanor and a lot of 'personality' (she is very vocally expressive when commanded to do something that for whatever reason displeases her, sounding remarkably like Chewbacca of Star Wars...

My rescue dog won't go down the stairs to my basement and I want to take him down there where it's cool so we can play. I don't want to force him, can you help me?

Dear Mr. Frawley: I have inquired with other trainers who have not helped me in my situation: One year ago I rescued a sweet 1 year old 100 lb. white Field Lab who is very, very laid back, sweet and wonderful. However, he does not get enough exercise even though I have a fenced in back yard. I take him to the doggy park but all he does is just lay on the cement and watch the other dogs. My problem is (I have a one story ranch) my basement is unfinished but I cannot get him to go do...

I understand the dominant dog collar can take the aggression out of the dog by lifting the dog up but do you do this when the prong collar is ALSO attached?

Hi Cindy, I want to order a prong collar and dominant dog collar but wanted to ask a question first. My main trouble is pulling and excited exuberance and/or dog to dog aggression (depending on the other dog). I understand the dominant dog collar can take the aggression out of the dog by lifting the dog up but do you do this when the prong collar is ALSO attached or only by itself? I'm confused by that and couldn't find the answer on the website. Also, on fur saver co...

I have a 18 month old pomeranian who just bit me. I had recently used a choke collar in training. Do you think this aggression was caused from using the choke collar?

I am in a desperate need for a help with my dog. I was reading your article on internet and thought you would be able to give me some suggestion. I have a male pomeranian. It is one year and six months old. I've had him since he was three months old. Since little, he is very very shy and intimidated around other dogs. Every day I take him to park where 20 other dogs are running around off leash. First few months he was just scared that he would be on my lap. After getting used to t...

I have a white GSD. People say we have to train these dogs differently. Can you tell me how we do that?

I adopted a almost two-year-old, White German Shepard Dog from the local Humane Society. He has not been a problem dog as yet. However, after reading much of your site I found that I am in the process of "grooming" him to be a problem dog. I now firmly believe in basic obedience training for all dogs as well as owners. Here are some questions I have before purchasing advice. 1. So many sites claim White German Shepard Dogs are different than regular German Shepard Dogs and need to ...

We are having trouble house training our new puppy. We are feeling exhausted and hopeless. Please help!

Hi, My wife and I got your puppy DVDs and religiously followed what have been suggested in your DVDs, eBook, and articles. We understand by now a puppy choosing to pee in the crate is a hard problem to solve. We have a situation where our puppy would not pee outside after good 15-20 min waiting. Then, when she gets in the house, she rushes to her crate "TO PEE." Just today alone, she peed in her crate 2 times and in the kitchen one time. When she did that in the kitchen, we stopped...

Would substituting the crate for the back yard work? Is the back yard not restricting enough?

Hello, I just adopted a very mellow and sweet Rottie from the pound. He is about 5 years old. I had a question. We live in Southern California(great weather), have a covered patio and 6 foot fencing around my whole yard. I plan on having him as an outside dog for the most part. So my question is: From reading your articles. Would substituting the crate for the back yard work? Is the back yard not restricting enough? I am talking about the initial conditioning to estab...

How do you stop aggression in a dog?

I would like to know how to stop aggression. Also I would like to know if my two males, one 6 months and one 18 months old, will fight for dominance. Both are neutered. In first letter I gave you the background of their attack on the goat. I would very much like to buy your video. Thank you, Dean

Our dog constantly breaks out of her kennel. I'm thinking of trying the 24/7 crating with bark collar. How do I know her

Hello, 6 year old dog aggressive and separation/claustrophobic rescued Akita. Charm to humans. We purchased the aluminium crate about 5 years ago for when we boarded her she would bust out of their crates. It works great as you know. We have an indoor/outdoor kennel at home which until recently she respected. Bad lighting storm surged our house, blew out electronics. She has not been happy in her kennel ever since, but it was well constructed. 2 weeks after the storm, we moved to a new st...

My Bull Terrier has bitten my father and tries to bite me. I have hung him until he passes out and he sometimes still tries to bite me. What should I do?

Hi, my name is Alexandre and I?m from Brazil. I have a 3 year old Bull Terrier called Brutus. Brutus is a very nice dog. He is smart, friendly, funny, loves to play with his toys, BUT... (this terrible word!!!) it has been doing some strange things. It?s kind of stubborn, and when I do something that it doesn?t agree with, it becomes aggressive. So, I have to be hard with it. For three times I had to hang his neck until it stopped growling and trying to bite me, but this aggressive...

My dog has had diarrhea for 3 months. What can I do?

You've become my last resort, and I really hope you can help. My dog has been having diarrhea on/off for the past three months. This last month has definitely been the worse because it involved blood in his stools. I originally bought this German Shepherd when he was only 8 weeks old from a local breeder here who's dogs have had a great background. When I first took him home, he was doing great and his poop was a perfect log. At that time he was on Nutro-Max dry food, but a few weeks later hi...

We have 7 dogs that get along except for our chow-mix who will fight with our golden. What should I do?

I know you will think I am insane, but... My girlfriend and I have 7 dogs, we have a pack obviously. The dogs are: a 12 year male golden, a 10 female golden, a 10 year female lab, a 6 year female golden, a 6 year female golden/chow, a 5 year female golden, and a 2 year male golden. All of the dogs are spayed and neutered. Some of these (the older 3 & the 5 year old) we raised from pups of 8 weeks. The others were dogs that we adopted from rescue groups. The dogs generally get along...

My dog barks at family. What I should do when my family comes back and she starts barking / growling at my husband again?

Hi Cindy, I wrote to you some time ago with questions regarding my 2-year-old (about) GSD, which I adopted about 4 months ago. Briefly, Dyna (the dog) is from a working GSD kennel and was unwanted because of one floppy ear. She was kept at the breeder's kennel until she was about 7 months old (he wanted to retain her as a breeding bitch) and then sold to a family as a pet-only dog (as her ear didn't stand up). She stayed with this family for about 10 months or so and then was retur...

My dog drools a lot when crated. She hasn't always been this way but it has been getting worse. Do you think this is anxiety? What should I do?

Hi Cindy, I have a question about canine anxiety. I have a 3 year old female malinois who is crated every time I leave the house for anything longer than five minutes. When I am home, she has the run of the acre+ backyard. The problem is that every time she is in her crate, she begins panting excessively and drooling all over herself. When I get home, she has covered her feet with drool. She doesn't do this when she is out running around or at night when she is in the house. She sl...

What should I do about a dog that hurts himself while in the crate?

Hey Ed, I was looking at your separation anxiety page, and, forgive me if I missed it, but I don't think I found an answer to this particular question. What do you do with a dog that, when kenneled or left alone, is so panicked that he injures himself? I fostered a rescue dog at one point that would bloody himself trying to get out of a crate, and when left loose in a room alone for no more than 30 minutes, he went straight through an interior door and put gouges in the soli...
