Our dog is constantly licking/kissing everything, is there something wrong with him?

Good Morning Ed, We received our dog vest and all looks great ... thank you! But, I did have a quick question regarding Maltese behavior. I was wondering if you know why, our 8 year old male Maltese who we adopted from a rescue 6 years ago, loves to lick (kiss). It doesn't matter if it's a pillow, blanket, a person's hand or foot, arm etc. he just loves to kiss. Can you attribute this behavior to anything? Any insight would be appreciated. Sincerely, Rick

My rescue Greyhound snaps at me. What can I do?

I hope you don't mind questions. I have a dominant female Greyhound X. She is very dog aggressive and will bark and nip friends that visit on a hit and miss basis. We have done obedience classes and she is about 70% on sits and downs. Her stays are 20% and only with treats. I have no idea how to convince her. We got her from the pound a year ago and she is 6 years old. We let her sleep in the bed and she is less then 4 feet away when we eat. I like her sleeping with us. What should...

I adopted a 5 year old poodle who was allowed to sleep in bed with the previous owner. We want to stop this. When we put her in a crate she howls all night. What can we do?

Dear Mr. Frawley, I just adopted a 5 year old toy poodle. Her previous owner was an elderly single woman who kept her on her lap and had her sleep on her bed. She's a good dog. She gets along well with my 1 1/2 year old miniature poodle. My only problem is, how to get her to sleep in a crate and out of my bedroom. She connected with my husband and would love nothing more then to sleep in our bed. I managed to get her off my bed and onto a day bed but I rather she spen...

I have a Maremma sheepdog. I would like to use E collar to stop some of her behaviors - jumping up. What approach would you recommend?

I have a 16 month old spayed Maremma sheepdog which was purchased as a puppy. This breed is used to guard livestock, and is supposed to have a low prey drive, which allows them to bond to the livestock. She is a wonderful animal, very loving and also protective of her animals and of us. She lives in a completely fenced 3 acre yard with her goats. She lives outside and never comes into the house. We purchased a prong collar and E collar as well as your DVDs on Basic Obedience training and ...

Our pitbull is being attacked by our in-laws' Rotts. What can we do to stop all of this?

Hello, My husband and I own a pitbull. His name is Munster (not our name of choice, we were given "Munster" while he was a puppy and he had gotten so used to the name that it stuck, we call him "Duke" around strangers that are weary of his breed.) He is the best dog I have ever owned, we even owned a pitbull before him...but had to find her a new home after she had shown aggression towards me while I was feeding her. Munster has never shown aggression towards us or any other people...

My 8 month old GSD was chased by a Pit Bull and he hurt himself. Will he be afraid of other dogs now? What can I do?

Hello Mr. Frawley! Unfortunately I read your article on dog parks too late and now I'm not sure what I should do with my dog. I have an 8 month old GSD puppy named Shaman. He got sick when we just got him and he did not get his shots until he was 5 month old, so he did not have any experience with other dogs. I slowly introduced Shaman to my friends dog (girl shiba-inu, his age) and it took him a while to get used to her but now they are best friends and play very nicely. S...

My 8 month old GSD is very soft. Can you help me with ideas on training?

We have an 8 month old puppy who is extremely soft. If we raise our voice just a little bit, he cowers. We have had him since he was 9 weeks old and has never been hit, spanked or beaten in any way. He is an excellent dog who listens great and when we do discipline him, it?s with verbal warnings only. He knows when he has done wrong and usually only does it once. My problem is that at a family gathering today he was kicked in the butt by a relative that feels you have to beat the dog to get h...

My dog escapes from everything we try and leave him in. He chewed through the basement door. What can we do?

Hi. We have a 6 year old Chow named Otis. He's been a very sweet loving affectionate dog with no problems all his life until recently. We moved into a new house about 6 months ago. The first thing we did was get an invisible pet fence and collar for him. That works great. When we're not home we leave him in the basement. It's never been a problem before, but about a month ago he started chewing up the basement door and frame. So we looped the wire for the invisible fence around the door. ...

We are going to neuter our dog before we get it so it will not leave his scent all over our house. Is this enough?

Hi there. My family and I are considering a mini-dog and he will be neutered before we get him. Our concern is that he will put his scent all around the house and it will become smelly. Does the scenting happen less often after neutering or if we are still concerned about this situation should we be just considering a female dog only? Please help before we consider our dog choice. Thank you, Vickie

My dog constantly pushes his dry food out of his bowl all over the floor. Sometimes, he tries to dump the food bowl over. Do you know of any such product?

Ed, I have a Great Pyrenees who constantly pushes his dry food out of his bowl all over the floor. Sometimes, he tries to dump the food bowl over. We have no idea why he does this but are seeking a bowl that will not be able to be overturned and will not allow him to push the food out with his nose. Do you know of any such product? Many thanks! I have a very hard pup, but she freaks out whenever I leave, even if it is just for 5 minutes. How can I fix this or will she grow out of it?

Hi, I can't tell you what it means to me to have the invaluable free information on your website. Some dog owners just don't have the funds for purchasing training tapes and videos and what is out there on the market is usually garbage anyway. Thank God there is someone who knows dogs that we can all turn to. I know you must have saved thousands of dogs just by having it there. We humans just have no natural instincts for raising pack animals. We need to be taught. I ha...

We have an 11 week old Cockapoo that is aggressive. A trainer told us that we should put the pup down or give him back to the breeder. What are your thoughts?

We have an 11 week old cockapoo that we picked up when he was 7 weeks. Early on he was showing signs of aggressive behavior, we didn't really think anything of it, just a playful puppy. Early this week the pup found a balloon and when my wife tried to get it out of his mouth he growled and bit her pretty hard, viciously. The next day he found a napkin on the floor. I tried to do the same and he really went after me and bit me very hard also. We called a trainer referred to us by ou...

Recommended Do you recommend puppy classes where puppies are turned loose together to “socialize” ?

Hi Cindy, I hope you are well. I cannot find anything that specifically addresses this question, so I am reaching out. Puppy socialization classes: specifically, a local trainer has classes where puppies, grouped roughly by age, are placed together to "socialize." Do you/Leerburg recommend this sort of class? Thank you!

My dog attacks other dogs without a warning. What can I do to stop this?

I write you because my dog attacks other dogs without warning. I've had 2 different trainers revue her and find nothing wrong with her, one trainer specialized in aggressive dogs. My dog doesn't attack all the time, it's extremely random. She gives no warning signs except for some posturing, there is no growling or anything. In fact she is quite silent. Never barks. A huge problem is I'm not strong enough to really pull on the pinch collar enough to do anything useful when she gets into fight...

My Bichon Frise shows aggression to children. I am taking him to obedience classes at Pet Smart. This is not helping. What can I do?

I know you probably don't hear a lot about these dogs, but here goes: I purchased him from a private breeder (mother very sweet, siblings all looked fine-clean home, etc - husband and wife stays home with dogs. About a month after we got him, some relatives came to stay for 6 weeks temporarily with us. They have 2 children, ages 2 and a half and 6. Both of the...

My Lab poops in the bed of my truck everytime I load him up. How can I help my dog to learn that what he's doing is not acceptable?

My 5 Year Old Lab has a problem with going to the bathroom. A good friend suggested I contact you. I hope you can help. My Lab poops in the bed of my truck everytime I load him up to take him to the river or for a run in the country. He just gets so excited, I don't think he can help himself. My Lab lives to hunt and retrieve! That's all he's interested in. He doesn't care for petting and playing, just working. He gets a good deal of excercise as he walks three miles with me each ...

You offer many ecollars, which one would work best for my situation?

Cindy, There are so many choices from you product offering. I'm uncertain as to which one is best for me. I have purchased the electronic collar training DVD (as well as Dominant & Aggressive, Tug, Rewarding with food and a few others) and currently own a "Petsafe" brand ecollar and its effectiveness is disappointing. A bit of background: I have a 3 year old Doberman/Greyhound (75 lb) cross problem who is fast, athletic and has A LOT of drive. He is a rescue dog I have been handling...
